Accounting Major
I chose Heidelberg because I wanted to have more individual attention that a smaller school provided, continue my athletic career, and stay closer to home.
I majored in Accounting because I was interested in learning how businesses work. I knew I wanted to work with numbers and the process of how transactions and events are recorded and eventually shown through financial statements.
A major challenge I encountered while at Heidelberg was learning to study and master content while playing football. I handled these challenges by planning my day, studying every day, and executing the items I set to complete.
Above all, Heidelberg prepared me to go forward with my career in accounting with confidence and collaborate with others.
Outside of the classroom, I was involved in Football, the Honors Program, and internships with Cedar Fair, Sutton Bank, and Barnes Wendling CPAs.
My favorite extra-curricular activity was Football. I met a lot of great people, it kept me disciplined and put me on a path to a healthy lifestyle.
One faculty or staff mentor or advisor who impacted my ‘Berg experience is Professor Scott Miller. He helped me a lot with accounting topics as well as my internship experience. He was always asking questions and helping me to decide what I wanted to do after graduation.
My advice to new freshman me would be to work hard and always think for the future. Everything you do at Heidelberg is setting the foundation for your future. Take advantage of all the opportunities that come from it.
My favorite Heidelberg memory is going through Dog Soldiers my junior year.
My plans after graduation are to continue at Heidelberg through the MBA program and eventually take the CPA exam and then continue my career at Barnes Wendling CPAs.
